After graduating high school "C. Negruzzi "Iasi, in 1952, as head of the class, he attended the Polytechnic Institute of Iaşi and in 1957 earned a merit diploma in specialty mechanic- energetic engineer. In 1968 he argued the doctoral thesis entitled "Contributions to the study of the bearing capacity of spur gears with polyamide on steel gears" at the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest.
He was hired as an assistant at the Polytechnic Institute of Iaşi in 1957, occupying in turn the following teaching positions: Assistant (1957-1964), lecturer (1964-1969), Associate (1969-1972), professor (1972-2004) teacher consultant (2004 - present).
He leaded teaching activities in the following subjects: Machine Elements, Mechanisms, Mechanical Vibration, Friction and Wear Phenomena in Tribological system. He taught also Biomechanical Systems Tribology at University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iaşi (2000-2003).
In Polytechnic Institute of Iaşi and, from 1990, Technical University "Gh. Asachi" he held the following executive positions: vice dean (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, 1968-1972), vice rector (1972-1976), rector (1976-1984), head of department (Machine Elements, 1984-1996), rector (1996-2000).
He has significant scientific achievements in the field of construction and operational optimization of machine elements, especially for peak industry: new bearings concept and research for bearings increased reliability (tests improved, tribological phenomena in contact, dynamic phenomena, extreme work conditions) also he was concerned with the establishment of methods of analysis and calculation of gear plastic gear, and dynamic stress on fittings. He developed research experiments to improve vibro-acustic computerized diagnosis for vehicles and parts (gears, bearings).
It may be the retained, from more than 250 specialty papers (treaties, monographs, books, patents, journal articles, communications, contracts), the treaties: Machine Elements (1981, 1983 and 1999, 2002), Bearings (prize "Aurel Vlaicu" Romanian Academy, 1987), Machines Vibro-acustics Diagnosis (1989) and Finite element and border methods (1987).
He led 31 completed doctoral theses. He worked as a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA 1972), visiting professor at the Institute of Technology Luo Yang (China 1987) and the Academy of Lille (France 1999).
He participated in numerous congresses, as well as documentation and specialized internships abroad. He led / participated in research and funded training programs as Leonardo da Vinci, Tempus, World Bank.
He is AGIR member (1990-present) and Tribology Association member (1997-present).
He was a member of the National Council for Attestation of Academic Degrees and Diplomas (CNATCDU 1991-1998), the National Council for Scientific Research (CNCSIS 2000-2003), the National Council for Academic Evaluation and Accreditation (CNEAA 1994-2005).
Is Doctor Honoris Causa of the Technical University in Chişinău, Moldova Republic (1999) and the University of North of Baia Mare (2002). He was awarded: Order 'Scientific Merit "(1982), Order" Star of Romania "(Knight 2002). It may be mentioned: gold medals in international exhibitions of inventions in Geneva (1995) and Brussels (1997), honorary diploma of the International Association of Rectors (1998).
