In this paper the work by Giulio Mozzi, published in 1763, has been revised with the aim to claim to him the first definition of screw axis.
In this paper the work by Giulio Mozzi, published in 1763, has been revised with the aim to claim to him the first definition of screw axis. Particularly, his treatment has been reported and commented by remarking the cultural interest on the topics in the XVlIIth century. In addition, the whole work has been revised to stress its importance and interest also nowadays. Remarks on the circulation of the work by Mozzi have been developed to give an insigth of how the topics of general motion of rigid bodies gave arise and was approached at a very beginning of a Screw Theory. |
