In this paper an attempt is reported for the analysis of the contributions that have made possible the evolution of the early skill on Mechanism Design to Mechanics of Machinery as a mature discipline both for professional activity and technical academic teaching. The fundamental thoughts and design concepts on Mechanics and Machine Elements by Aristotle, Archimedes, and Heron are discussed in the forms that they have been reconsidered at Renaissance time leading to the milestone works by Guidobaldo Del Monte in 1577 and Galileio Galilei in 1593. |
